“What’s your mum doing here?” says Leon pointing behind Jacob to distract him.
Jacob turns around instantly, falling for his rouse. “Mum??” he says, puzzled.
Suddenly Terry grabs him off guard and hoists him with an almighty wedgie.
“Hahaha!” laughs a cruel Terry as Jacob screeches in pain and embarrassment.
At that moment a senior from the tennis club walks in on the incident, but not wanting to get involved, immediately retreats leaving Jacob with no respite from his aggressors.
“So, what snacks do you have for me today?” snarls Scary Terry as he snatches Jacob’s bag from his hands and begins fumbling through it. “Really…muesli bars?? Are you serious?!” With a cruel grin, he throws the bars over his shoulder then upends Jacob’s bag. “How-about-you-buy-me-lunch,” he croons in a sing-song tone, as he scoops up a coin lying among the spilled contents. “So how much more is in your pockets, dweeb?” he demands through clenched teeth.
“I’m not sure,” murmurs a trembling Jacob.
“Empty your pockets.” Terry snaps.
Palms sweaty, Jacob reaches into his pocket and, to his dismay, finds only a five-cent piece.
“That’s not going to buy me much. Any more, knucklehead?” says an increasingly agitated Terry.
“I don’t think so,” says an unsure Jacob.
“Liar,” shouts Terrence angrily, as he pushes Jacob over.
Abruptly, Jacob finds himself hanging upside down, held by hostile hands, which proceed to shake him violently. Everything in his pockets tumbles to the ground: pens, gum, a couple of old wrappers, and another coin.
“Knew you’d have more,” laughs Terry scornfully as he reaches down and picks up the last coin. And with that, he signals to the others and they start heading towards the cafeteria to spend their ill-gotten gains.
“Later loser. Don’t be a stranger,” sniggers Terry sarcastically to the others.
